Do you have to be real to have a heart?

Do you need to be real to have a heart?
When you read a poem or story,
Don't the characters come to life in your heart?
Once you get to know their appearance,
Personalities,
Memories,
Doesn't it feel like you're being with them every step of the way?
As they progress,
Don't you visit lush mountains,
Urban cities,
Sunny beaches?
When they become depressed,
Don't you sympathize with them,
Want them to feel better?
If so,
Doesn't this mean characters have hearts too?
Don't they live on with you?
Perhaps even within you?
If not,
Do you truly know what is and isn't a heart?
Is it something real or intangible?
Is it in our minds or souls?
Do we even have hearts?
